Prep School

Estimated reading time: 1 minutes —

I’ve been meaning to do a ‘back-to-school’ picture all month but didn’t get the opportunity to dress up in full uniform till today. Dressing up like this brought back old memories of my prep school days. I remember we all hated wearing our ties, in the Florida heat it’s just not that pleasant to wear. Thank goodness it wasn’t absolutely mandatory, only on certain days. Sometimes it seems time goes by so fast you don’t know where it went and how you became an adult. Especially if you rarely feel like one.

I wanted to actually take this picture in a nice school inworld, however, believe it or not that was a very difficult task. I had a really hard time finding a decent looking school with nice textures that would really pop in a photo. The ones that were nice, were hard to get to or closed off because they were part of a school role-play and you need to be in the group to access it.

This picture I took at Edgewood Preparatory School, which is a high school role-play and I actually couldn’t get any closer to the school than what you see here. There were ban lines all around and I couldn’t move so I just did the best I could. I’m not going to share the slurl here because it’s not a sim you can really explore. If you do know of any nicely textured highschool or even university that is open to explore, let me know!

OMG Berry! You could be my daughter! hahaha

IDK why you kids always look better! πŸ˜›

Yes, I needed to snap a school pix for my Fontbron Faculty application and I too didn’t find an ideal campus so easily. You really did a lovely job with this one though. The far away shot actually works really well for this, and your selective background treatment with haze and soft focus gives such a nice tone.

I really like like my old school uniform, but WOW, yours just kills!

PS: in our new theme the “featured” image on the home slider is bigger! We now get a full 940px wide. The window is actually 940 x 400, but I’ve been making my featured images 940 x 500 just to have a little extra room, and also you might notice when the slider first loads it shows a larger image and then crops or slides up to the 400px.

Also the “magic trick” that puts new posts on the home page slider is just adding the tag “slider” to the post. You don’t have to wait for me to come along and add it, you can just apply it and be featured in all your (way deserved!) glory! πŸ˜€

Oohhhh, awesome. I’m really happy about the bigger picture ratio. I’ll make sure to do that for my next post and will remember the slider tag as well. I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the comments here, I’m gonna catch up now. I wonder if there was a way to set it up so it emails me every time someone leaves a comment here?

Theres’s “sorta” an email solution. Under your author box is “9 comments 2 reactions” then “leave a message” and then before the first comment is “Discussion | Community | My Disqus” and then over to the side a “Gear”

        I believe
        β€’ Discussion = this post
β€’ Community = all of iRez
        β€’ My Disqus = You

So “this post” is “this post”… and Community is everything everywhere, but “My Disqus” would let you see and reply to any REPLIES anyone had left you anywhere. (but, I think, it wouldn’t notify you of original comments on your posts)

Similarly, I can make you a “Comment Moderator” — but I don’t see a way to set that “Just for posts by Strawberry Singh” so that way you’d get an email for ALL comments on iRez!

If you use the “Gear” to turn on notifications, then kind of like “My Disqus” it’ll notify you of all follow up stuff, but not original comments on your posts.

I’m not sure if there’s a way to do exactly that.

Hmm… you know… one trick that might work… if you click, NOT the “β™₯ Like” box right under the text (our “KK I Like It” plugin)

but if you click the “* n Stars” box, under your author profile, to the right, that MIGHT make it a “thread you comment on” — and then on Disqus Settings / Notifications, if you click “Subscribe to threads I comment on” — maybe that would be exactly what you want! πŸ™‚

        OMG Berry, I’m such a dolt! πŸ˜›

I couldn’t figure out how you can follow comments on your own post because… IT’S TOO EASY!!! πŸ˜›

haha, all you do after you post is go to the Disqus “Star” box right under your author box and say “Subscribe via Email” and then (I think) you’ll get an email for any comments on your (that one) post. Yay!

kk, haha, just to completely run this into the ground, I think I have figured all out! Click the little flickr image below to see **SECRETS REVEALED**

Our “KK I Like It” service uses logins to iRez. If you’re an “Author” like Berry or Yordie etc, then you’re very likely just logged in all the time. But anyone can register / login at iRez:
        http://iRez.me/wp-login.php

Then you can “like” stuff. (it’ll use your little picture from
        http://gravatar.com

Our Comments use Disqus – just make an account or login and you’re good to go. It keeps track of your comments and any replies across all posts on all (disqus) websites.

If you want to get the comments for any specific post, for example the post you just published, you just click the gear and say “subscribe”

        SO EASY! hahahaha

I love this sim too! But yeah it’s frustrating that it’s all closed off. I even sent the sim owner a notecard asking if/when the school was opening, but no reply. You did a great job with the pic as you can’t tell you’re that far away!

Oh hey Libby! I’m sure Berry will be along in a while to chat, but I just wanted to say thanks for dropping by iRez and visiting with us!

Yes, it’s funny, but I almost take ban lines in SL personally! πŸ˜›

IRL I totally get that peeps don’t want me wandering through their house! (Although I do hate walking down a public street and being yelled at by 20 ferocious dogs – one in every yard!) But in virtual space I always think they’re unnecessary. Maybe that’s different for RP places though. Given the long list of rules they often have, I imagine peeps can sometimes go off in a lot of directions. And if it’s a school thing that could have age dynamics as well, I suppose you can’t be too careful.

Oh thanks! Yeah I’ve never been one to use ban lines or security orbs or anything like that really, I’m never doing anything exciting enough to really care about possible visitors! LOL I’ve logged in to find strange men testing my bed and women sitting on my couch, I just find it rather funny and tend to try and strike up a conversation, I don’t see the point in getting all precious about it, they’re usually newbies who don’t understand how funny some people get over their virtual identity and belongings. I think I am in the minority as I’m the kind of person who, if someone asks me where I got something I’m wearing, give them the full rundown of everything I’ve got on, including LMs LOL!

The person who owns the sim the school is on also owns a (also absolutely beautiful!) residential sim so I imagine she’s been around, maybe she’s hoping to have a special opening or something. I hope so as I would love to properly explore!

Thank you so much Libby! I found a flickr for the school that has lots of great images of it, I would love to explore it more, it’s a shame we can’t. Here’s the flickr link to the pics, it looks like it would be a lot of fun: http://www.flickr.com//photos/79076890@N07/show/

LOVE this, Berry, you always amaze.
And lordy, that Florida humidity and heat! The funny thing about finding a high school role play school is, I’ve always felt that Second Life is a high school role play game.
I went to boarding school in Georgia, no uniforms though. Maybe that’s why I ran away. Anyway, I can soooo totally relate to your Florida experience.

Thanks Yordie! <3 It's still like totally boiling hot in Florida and we're well into Autumn lol. How are you btw? Hope you're settling in well. <3

Another great picture, I love the outfit and the soft colours! It’s also fun to read about school uniform nostalgia here. Where I live, nobody wears uniforms when going to school, so I guess I missed out on something! ^^

I did a little foot work and checked out what of the school (and it’s surrounding area) that is accessible and it is really fantastic. I am used to role-play areas being “roped off”; however, I can see how this would be terribly annoying for just about anyone else.

It is pretty common for role-plays that have applications and tuition to be private with a few common areas that are open to the public due to greifing and wanting to discourage those with less than good intentions. As things are they are in the middle of their school term, which is six weeks of classes followed by a break of a week or two.

While you can’t get onto the school grounds (proper) or register right now you can get to both the East and West Ivory Towers, which house things like their theater and student housing (one is just across the way from the school and the other you can access through Arbor Pointe itself). It may be open for further exploration once they are accepting new students.

I’ll drop you a notecard in world with the info, my brain is well boiled after being sick.
