Animal Avatar Pride Parade
48 avatars participated in Saturday’s Animal Parade in Sydney Harbour. Starting in front of Danish architect Jørn Utzon’s legendary Sydney Opera House (started 1959, completed 1973) we walked 3 loops of a course that took us across the Harbour Bridge (1923 – 1932) from the Sydney central business district (CBD) to the North Shore.
The avatar beauty industry has long been criticized for creating false stereotypes and unrealistic expectations. Reminiscent of the legendary Dove “Evolution” video, in the images above we see the already attractive Tredi Felisimo as she arrived at the Sydney Opera House, and in the 2nd frame, as she looked after hours of hair, makeup, wardrobe, gene therapy, transmogrification, prim attachments, and other extreme procedures. A good day of harmless fun? Or a destructive, objectifying, distorted presentation of avatars putting unrealistic pressures on mere mortal avatars to live up to this impossible beauty ideal? You be the judge.
